For many children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate, Shriners Hospitals for Children is invaluable. The organization’s network includes 22 non-profit medical facilities across North America where more than one million children have received care and services in a family-centered environment, regardless of their ability to pay.
Some do not realize that Shriners Hospitals for Children began as a philanthropic effort by Shriners International (or The Shriners), a Freemasonry-related organization. Founded in 1870, The Shriners is a fraternity based on fun, fellowship, and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief and truth. Today, The Shriners is comprised of more than 300,000 members.
Counted among its members is Jonathan W. McConnell, the founding attorney at the McConnell Law Firm. Jon is a Noble, Perpetual Life Member of Shriners International and a past Temple attorney for the Midian Shrine Temple in Wichita.
