Founded in 1987 by Mary Ann Khoury after she realized the Wichita and Sedgwick County area had no support groups or organizations to assist victims of impaired driving, the DUI Victims Center of Kansas in their mission to reduce the traumatic effects of a impaired driving crash on the victims and their families. The McConnell Law Firm proudly supports their efforts to not only help those affected by impaired driving but to educate both youth and adults on the possible life-ruining outcomes of driving impaired.
“The DUI Victims Center of Kansas helps those affected by impaired driving accidents through the worst times in their lives,” said McConnell Law Firm founding attorney, Jonathan W. McConnell.
Currently, the Center is the only comprehensive program in the Wichita and Sedgwick County area and their program is expanding throughout Kansas. They provide services to more than 500 victims and families per year. Additionally, they offer a DUI Victims Panel program that presents the aftermath of driving impaired to DUI Diversion, Juvenile and Adult court-ordered offenders.
“The service the DUI Victims Center of Kansas provides to our community is invaluable, said McConnell. “The DUI Victims Panel has been attended by more than 80,000 offenders since its inception in 1990.”
Additionally, the Center hosts annual events to assist victims emotionally. The Candlelight Vigil of Remembrance and Hope brings victims, families, and friends together to remember a loved one who has been injured or killed by an impaired driver. They also organize a Holiday Drive For Victims, compiling a list of DUI victims then tying red ribbons on the antennas of law enforcement vehicles across the state.
