To improve the safety and security of communities across the state of Kansas, the Kansas Sheriffs’ Association (KSA) was founded in 1957. Because of the diversity in the size and population of Kansas counties, the KSA places their focus on initiatives that may not benefit Kansas Sheriffs as individuals but rather strengthen the office of Sheriff to help the people they serve.
The KSA’s areas of focus include: advocating legislation that assists those who enforce the law, educating the public and fellow officers on law enforcement issues, education and training for Sheriff offices, and scholarships for students.
Education
Since its founding, the KSA’s focus on education has remained steady. They schedule several conferences and training sessions throughout the year to ensure that officers remain informed on the issues they may face. In addition to that, they offer spouses, children, and grandchildren of KSA members the chance to apply for one of up to 16 scholarships. These scholarships can be used towards any accredited two-year or four-year college or university and for undergraduate or graduate studies.
