Wichita native Jonathan W. McConnell founded his own namesake law firm in 2014, quickly becoming well-known for his work vigorously defending clients with charges ranging from traffic violations to serious crimes. Located on the first floor of the landmark Scottish Rite Temple in downtown Wichita, the practice was rebranded in 2017 as the McConnell Law Firm, which is comprised of two additional attorneys and three staff members.
Today, Jon combines expert knowledge and unmatched tenacity to lead his practice in defending the rights of clients. Jon describes his approach as aggressive and “outside the box,” utilizing a fresh and modern approach. Both the public and his peers have taken notice, consistently rating Jon at the top of the profession with the most prestigious legal directories: Avvo, The National Trial Lawyers, Super Lawyers and Martindale-Hubbell.
Jon nearly followed his parents, Dr. William H. McConnell and Vickie McConnell, into the ministry, but was attracted to the law as another way of making a difference in people’s lives. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in criminal justice from Wichita State University, then attended law school in Miami. Prior to starting his own firm, Jon worked as a Law Clerk for a judge in Broward County, Florida, as an Assistant District Attorney for then-Sedgwick County Prosecuting Attorney Nola Foulston and then for noted defense attorney Dan Monnat.
Jon is a Scottish Rite Mason, an attorney for the Wichita Midian Shrine Temple and is actively involved with the Midwest Innocence Project, a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to the investigation, litigation and exoneration of the wrongfully convicted. In honor of his mother, who passed away from a rare form of cancer, he is dedicated to many other community involvement activities.
