The McConnell Law Firm, a premier Wichita criminal defense law firm, is proud to support Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of people living with muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and related neuromuscular diseases. MDA funds research, provides medical and community service, and educates health professionals and the general public.

What is Neuromuscular Disease?

Neuromuscular disease is a broad term that encompasses many diseases and ailments that impair the functioning of the muscles, either directly or indirectly. Symptoms of neuromuscular disease may include numbness, paresthesia, muscle weakness, muscle atrophy, myalgia (muscle pain) and fasciculations (muscle twitches).

“Each day people with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases are losing the freedom to walk, talk, eat and even breathe,” said Jonathan W. McConnell, the founding criminal defense attorney at the McConnell Law Firm. “By supporting MDA, we can help to change that.”

Making an Impact

Since its inception in 1950, MDA has had a positive and significant impact.

  • Currently, MDA is supporting 150 research projects worldwide.
  • Each year, children and adults make nearly 50,000 visits to MDA Care Centers.
  • Annually, more than 3,800 children learn vital life skills and independence at MDA Summer Camp.

How to Get Involved

According to MDA, “Generous donors, event participants and dedicated volunteers are the heart of MDA’s programs, which make it possible for MDA to continue funding groundbreaking research across diseases to find treatments and cures, support kids and adults from day one and empower families with services.”
